Shepherd of Light was my senior thesis project. The concept was conceived in a college game club. I have a passion for puzzle games, and I was interested in developing new puzzle mechanics. I fine-tuned the game concept and pitched it to my professors.
Once it was approved, I served as the lead designer and programmer. I organized a project team and supervised development of the game. I created and routinely edited the game design document. As project manager, it was my job to keep the team on task and on schedule. I assigned tasks to the team members and designed the Shepherd of Light website to prepare for our release on Steam.
I also took charge of level design as the lead level designer. I designed mechanics, created level top downs, and staged levels in Unreal. This was a fun part for me since I love playing puzzle games and designing them was even more satisfying. I was the QA lead. I coordinated play testers and created a bug reporting pipeline. Lastly, I was the technical cinematic director. I worked with my team to animate the camera and on blending character animations.
For me, the most rewarding part of the entire experience was reading through all the reviews on Steam. It was humbling to see a game I put so much energy into bring joy and satisfaction to others. I look forward to chasing the feeling and designing incredible games in the future.
